Cover gel: differences and application

There are many different types of nail gel. This article is about the make-up gel and its application. The emmi®NAIL cover gels are wonderfully easy to use and reliably cover unevenness and discoloration on the nail.

What is cover gel?

Covergel is a light-curing gel made of liquid plastic that hardens under the UV device. It covers spots that would show through under a clear build-up gel. Such small blemishes can be nail discoloration caused by nicotine or simply natural growth grooves. Sometimes, however, a nail fungus is behind it, which is why you need a trained eye to send the customer to a dermatologist if necessary.

The emmi®NAIL Make-Up Gel provides excellent coverage and is therefore often used to visually lengthen the nail bed. First extend the nail with a tip or template and then apply the cover gel to the desired length. This can be up to the fingertip.

This is particularly popular for stiletto nails. Thanks to the different viscosities, our gels are always just right for your application. For the stencil technique, we recommend the more stable and medium-viscosity consistency.

Our make-up gels are available in many different shades. This ensures that you have the right shade for every customer. Depending on the skin color, you can then adjust the cover gel perfectly to achieve the most natural tinting effect possible.

For sensitive customers, emmi®NAIL naturally offers cover gels with and without acid. Some customers have an allergic reaction to the acid contained in the gel or have inherently good adhesion between the gel and nail and therefore require acid-free gels.

How do I apply the cover gel?

Cover gel is best applied with a size 4 gel brush or a full cover brush.

  1. First, prepare the nail as usual, gently remove the cuticle, trim the nail and roughen it slightly.
  2. Then, if necessary, apply the primer as an adhesion promoter and can then work directly with a 1-phase cover gel.
  3. If you want to build up the fingernail at the same time as the cover gel, first use a base gel as required, harden it and then sculpt with the appropriate base gel.

For a stable extension, for example for stilettos, you can also work with a base coat, build-up and then cover gel.

What is the advantage of acrylic gel as a cover gel?

The emmi®NAIL acrylic gel is flexible and stable. It is therefore particularly suitable for special nail extensions such as stiletto or edge nails. Acrylic gel is extremely stable and is applied to the nail using a special technique.

  1. First, use a metal spatula to remove a small amount from the gel jar.
  2. Then dip the gel brush in cleaner and wipe it off with a tissue.
  3. The brush must always be damp, otherwise the gel will stick to the bristles. Now you can start modeling.

Due to its special adhesion, our acrylic gel is perfectly suited for pinching. Pinching involves using a pinch clamp to give the nail a steep C-curve. The nail edges are pressed together and then the nail is briefly hardened. The pinch clamp is then removed and the gel is fully cured. Our acrylic gel impresses with its perfect adhesion and long working time. It is easy to file, has a low odor and is acid-free. Ideal for professionals and beginners.

What are stiletto nails?

Stiletto nails owe their name to the shoe of the same name. With their narrow pencil heel, these high heels attract everyone's attention. And it's the same with stiletto nails. Nails filed into stilettos are pointed like a typical high heel. Their long, tapered shape makes them the epitome of femininity.

The great thing about this nail shape is that stilettos make fingers appear longer thanks to their long shape. This is why stiletto nails are particularly suitable for women who have been blessed by nature with wider natural nails and shorter fingers. This leaves plenty of room during the manicure to file the nails to a sharp point along their entire length.
